Tango video channels and numbers

If you visit my YouTube channel (TC Tango ), some data (well, the subscriber count actually) are not necessarily displayed. That's because three years ago, when I created the channel, I didn't have much expectations and I wanted to emphasize on the content rather than numbers (and I didn't want to change the settings since then). Don't get me wrong, I do pay attention to numbers and impact after content is created and made available. Not so long ago, following some discussion, I thought that it would be a good thing to display some statistics now, I also started evaluating how my channel was doing in comparison to other "similar" tango channels and there are multiple ways of reading the numbers.

In March 2017, 030tango , another big tango YouTube channel and website, has published an article titled "Tango video channels, are they worth it?" . I do not have much to say about the article itself. Overall it's true. I would especially stress that established video channels often have more reach than many organisers, teachers or some maestros, yet when some festivals manage their content themselves, the contents from previous editions often get lost as years go by.

I let you read 030tango's article concerning the benefits of tango video channels as well as its comments about the current channels statistics. What I want to point out next is that my channel isn't mentioned in the figures while it could be well positioned in there. I talked about it with Jonas, who wrote the article and the main reason has to do with the fact that we were not in contact in the past and the way data are collected. He actually has data about my channel but only for the last few months.
So I guess it's a right occasion to display some statistics.
My point here is to show where my channel would fit in those data. But before I start, please note that there is a difference in the ways the data are collected since 030tango collected public data via web browser while my channel's data come from YouTube statistics. On the 6th of March 2017, my channel had 1.708.776 views over 181 videos, including 8.062 views over 5 "unlisted" videos which are previous versions of videos I have changed and re-uploaded, and 129 views over 8 "private" or "unlisted" videos that were never meant to be public. (According to Jonas, on 1st of March, my channel had 1.672.274 views.)

The first chart made by 030tango shows the average of views during the last 10 months (from May 2016 to February 2017):

And here are my channel's statistics: Chart by TC Tango (from YouTube) Since June 2016, my channel is staying around the 4th or 2nd position.

030tango's second chart shows how many views a video has on average on each channel:

If we use the numbers that I mentioned previously, subtracting the numbers from "private" and "unlisted" videos, my channel has :

Total views Video count Average views by video
1.664.083 168 9.905
1.700.585 168 10.123

Which makes it fits in 3rd position somewhere between "030tango" and "Murat and Michelle".
